Smart Practical Skirts for Adventures of All Kinds

The Purple Rain Adventure Skirt was born after the founder, Mandy, completed a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail (badass!) and she didn’t want to go back to work at a desk job (totally understandable). As a self-described DIYer she says, “it just made sense for me to do it all myself.”

Purple Rain Adventure Skirts’ mission is to provide women with high quality outdoor skirts that inspire them to find the freedom of adventure without compromising style or function. – Purple Rain Adventure Skirts

Tell Me More About These Versatile Skirts

The Purple Rain Adventure Skirt is a true skirt. Meaning, it does not have undershorts. The skirt is very versatile and at home on the trail, at the office, and everything between. For example, eight alternative ways to use the skirt are outlined HERE. In addition, Mandy says that a hiker once wrote a review where she used the skirt as a bib during a very messy meal — so the takeaway here is that there are an endless number of uses for these skirts!

Sewn in Oregon

All Purple Rain Adventure Skirt products have been, and continue to be, sewn in Oregon. They were originally sewn in Portland and are now sewn in Medford. During the life of Purple Rain Adventure Skirts, all skirts have been custom sewn by Mandy. And although sewing skirts in the United States has come with the usual cost challenges, the benefit of personal quality control and the ability to quickly make design changes has ensured that Purple Rain Adventure Skirt products are of high quality and meet customer needs in real time.

Moving forward, Purple Rain Adventure Skirts is looking to expand their manufacturing capacity using an Oregon based manufacturer. Strategically enhancing capacity will allow Mandy to maintain quality control and implement smart design adjustments when needed, while simultaneously expanding the company’s reach. This means that there will be more satisfied customers wearing these skirts for all kinds of adventures!

Leave No Trace

On the trail, Leave No Trace (learn more HERE ) is a very big deal and Mandy has made sure that this ethic is incorporated into Purple Rain Adventure Skirts’ operations. A company goal is to eventually become a Certified B Corporation, which means balancing purpose and profit. On that path, the company has been recognized as an Oregon Benefit Company by the Oregon Secretary of State’s office.

A few key highlights of what Purple Rain skirts is doing to minimize its footprint are as follows.

  • Purchase OEKO-TEX certified fabrics with a goal to use fabrics made from recycled content
  • Purchase “deadstock” fabric (leftover material from large manufacturers), which reduces landfill waste and reduces demand for new materials
  • Resell usable fabric remnants for use in projects of all kinds
  • Purchase the amount of electricity used in production from Pacific Power as Blue Sky Blocks to support renewable energy in Oregon
  • Products are shipped in mailers made from 100% recycled materials (mailers are reusable) with packing slips that are on 100% recycled paper (no plastic packing wrap is used)
  • Use product tags and labels that are made in the United States
  • Make products that are built to last

In addition, almost 100% of food consumed by Mandy and her family is locally sourced from area farmers and ranchers.

I get easily overwhelmed when I think about climate change. I’m scared for the kind of world my son will grow up in. We live in a beautiful place that has hazardous air quality for at least a month a year from wildfires. And I’ve seen this increase just in the short time we have lived here.

As a business owner that contributes to consumerism, I feel an obligation to do business with an Earth first and kindness approach. When it comes down to it, our daily actions are what really matter. We have the power to make change with how we spend our money. Vote with your dollars, believe me, businesses will listen.

We are all in this together and what we do today shapes the world for our children, one skirt at a time. – Mandy, Founder of Purple Rain Adventure Skirts
