Adventure in Style with SHREDLY

SHREDLY’S tag line of “Adventure in Style” is spot on. Their multi-sport apparel is made by women, for women and 100% American Made, with as much as possible (>75%) sourced locally.

SHREDLY empowers women to adventure in style with mountain bike-inspired active apparel infused with fashion and colorful designs, all consciously sourced and made in the USA. We think every adventure should begin the moment you get dressed. – SHREDLY

As they put it “whether you mountain bike, hike, paddleboard, run, or après, we’ve got you covered.” Here’s the rundown:

  • Shorts: for mountain biking and days filled with multiple activities
  • Tops: multiple sleeve length shirts (short, ¾, and long), as well as tanks
  • Leggings: numerous legging types (cropped, 7/8, standard length)
  • Chamois: multiple options specifically designed for women, including the LACECHAM (lace included, see it HERE)
  • Accessories: scrunchie and trucker hats to boot

Oh, and it should be mentioned that SHREDLY’S fabric designs are out of this world.

How Did SHREDLY Come to Be?

I couldn’t find stylish AND comfortable mountain bike shorts for women so I decided to make my own. But I knew that I wasn’t the only one who wanted them, so I set out to make fun shorts available for anyone who wanted to feel just as stylish on the bike as we all are off the bike. As a consumer, I personally make an effort to support American-made companies and wanted to build SHREDLY based on that same ethos. – Ashley, Founder

Carbondale, Community, and Philanthropy

SHREDLY is based in Carbondale, Colorado, and when asked why, the response was because “it’s home!” And not that it’s much of a surprise to any of you reading this, but Carbondale is also a fantastic place to field test adventure gear, especially mountain biking gear. It is home to mountain biking trails galore, a booming mountain lifestyle and cultural scene, and all situated underneath the shadow of Mount Sopris. American Outdoor Gear Hub also thinks Carbondale is a pretty darn sweet place to call home. If you’ve never been, it’s worth the trip . . . don’t forget your bike and be sure to pick up some SHREDLY gear before hitting the trail HERE or in town at Aloha Mountain Cyclery.

And not only is SHREDLY adding to Carbondale’s economy, it also keeps two small U.S. factories buzzing and contributes to inspiring organizations.

We are a small business that works with and partners with other small businesses and organizations throughout our entire supply chain and in our community. We employ two small U.S. factories with the majority of their work every year. Collectively, we all contribute to the local and national economy generating jobs and tax revenue. We also pride ourselves on our philanthropic programs where we contribute a portion of sales each year to select organizations who align with our core values. Our current recipients include the International Mountain Bike Association (focuses on trail advocacy and infrastructure while getting more women on bikes), Camber Outdoors (supports and accelerates equity in the outdoors/outdoor industry), and For the Good (partners with communities in Kenya to remove barriers to girls’ educations). – SHREDLY

So, despite the chronic challenge of keeping retail prices reasonable as U.S. production costs go up and competitors utilize low-wage labor overseas, SHREDLY continues to blaze their own trail – making great products entirely Made in the USA and still giving back. Now that’s a company worth paying attention to.

New Challenges and Opportunities

In this era of trade wars, new challenges and opportunities have come to the fore. For American Outdoor Gear makers like SHREDLY (and certainly many other companies making outdoor gear in the U.S.), they are now faced with a new challenge – having to compete for manufacturing space with bigger companies trying to move their production back to the United States. This poses real-time logistical, operational, and financial issues. For SHREDLY and other American Outdoor Gear makers, the struggle is real.

On the flipside, looking at the glass as half full from 30,000-feet, this presents opportunities for revitalization and job creation here at home. There is always opportunity where supply is not keeping up with demand – in this case, the supply of manufacturing space. American Outdoor Gear Hub’s hope is that some of you out there will read this and think hey, I should build light industrial space in my town for American Outdoor Gear Makers. And for those of you less inclined to play developer, a phone call to your City/Town’s economic development agency (Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Corporation, etc.) to find out if American Outdoor Gear is on their radar is a good first step. If not, talk to them about the idea of working to bring outdoor gear manufacturing to your neck of the woods.

Friends in Awesome Places

Ending on a lighter note, there are wonderful people and places the world over and outdoor gear can be the medium for connection! When asked to share a story about SHREDLY gear, this was the response.

One of our favorite stories is about a group of four women who randomly met because of SHREDLY. They were each from different countries, but riding an epic trail in New Zealand. At the summit they recognized that all of them were wearing SHREDLY and couldn’t help but say hello which led to chatting and taking a picture to send to us. We’ve heard other instances where women will stop each other on the trail because of their shorts who then become riding buddies. It makes us so happy that SHREDLY is the impetus for new friendships like this! – SHREDLY
